Beyond Borders

Entrance Foyer
St. Francis Xavier High School
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
10’ x 23‘

Vitrified glass enamels and stains, etching and antique glass, zinc cane

This art glass mural acts as a curved wall between the high school’s main entrance and the chapel.  Beyond Borders is an expressive work full of intense colour.  Amber stains, brilliant reds, greens, violets and blues floating in space shape a map of the world.  Fifty birds interspersed throughout the 126 glass panels signify St. Francis Xavier High School’s Fiftieth Anniversary.

The travels of St. Francis Xavier, Patron Saint of Navigators, inspired the design. The borderless shapes imply the ever changing face of today’s world, and the unique colour choices reflect universal global concerns.
